The transition from graduate studies to the professional world can be a challenging and intimidating process for many students. To help ease this journey, the Department of Spanish and Portuguese Studies recently organized a hybrid workshop series aimed at preparing MA and PhD students for the job market. This initiative, led by Dr. Gabriela Puscama, focused on providing essential tools and guidance for students as they navigate the job search process.
Over four engaging sessions, graduate students from Literature and Linguistics had the opportunity to write, review, and refine crucial application documents such as CVs, cover letters, and personal statements. The workshops also covered valuable strategies for adapting their academic experiences to communicate effectively with non-specialist audiences. In addition, participants were given practical tips for succeeding in virtual job interviews, a skill that has become increasingly important in today’s professional landscape.
This initiative underscores the department’s commitment to supporting the professional development of its graduate students, ensuring they are well-equipped to excel in their chosen careers. As students transition from their graduate studies to the world of work, the job market workshops serve as an invaluable resource, boosting their confidence and readiness to take on new professional challenges. We look forward to seeing the continued success of these training workshops and the positive impact they will have on future generations of SPS graduates.
