The Spanish and Portuguese internship program continues to flourish. This semester nine students participated in internships on and off campus. The Internship Program is part of Beyond 120, a project of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
These are the outstanding students in internships during the Fall 2021 semester:
Under the supervision of Youth Outreach Coordinator Alberto Lopez Torres and Lecturer Antonio Sajid López Méndez, three students — Gabriela Cano Uchofen, Cristina Rodríguez and Caroline Davis — translated exhibits, programs/activities, graphics, and worksheets into Spanish at the Florida Museum of Natural History.
Chonnalin Sumonthee worked with Children Beyond Our Borders, a Gainesville-based nonprofit that seeks to provide sustainable access to education for students in Alachua County and Latin America. As part of the Health Initiative team, Chonnalin’s main project was creating fun, informative videos in English and Spanish about various health topics for children.
Taylor Doyle was the Beyond120 program’s social media intern, whose goal has been to create a more engaging environment by including student testimonials (covering past study abroad experiences), advice on how to internationalize a career, and ideas on what students can do with their education before and after graduation.
Under the supervision of Andréa Ferreira, Yasmin Faco Araujo and Eric Marsh worked at AcheiUSA, the largest newspaper and website for the Brazilian community in Florida since 2000. Yasmin is a senior majoring in Microbiology and Portuguese; Eric is in his last year of studying Latin American Economics and Languages with specializations in Business Management and Latin American Studies.
