UF Spanish & Portuguese marked Hispanic Heritage Month with music, culture and community

The Department of Spanish and Portuguese Studies joined the national-wide celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month with a vibrant day at the Plaza de las Américas, featuring a lively salsa lesson, cultural displays, and the simple joy of watching students reconnect with their current and former Spanish instructors.

The event was a true collaborative effort, powered by the dedication of department faculty, the Organización de Estudiantes Graduados (OEGE), and the enthusiastic participation of Sigma Delta Pi members. Together, they created an open, welcoming space that highlighted the breadth of Hispanic cultures and the role language study plays in building community on campus.

Moments like these showcased what makes UF special: students, alumni and faculty coming together to celebrate heritage, exchange stories, and learn from one another.

Tell us what’s next: How should we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month next year?

We’d love to hear your ideas.
