The Hispanic Health Workers: Challenges and Hopes

Health has been one of the most discussed topics recently due to the experience of the Covid-19 pandemic. The world’s health systems have been put to the test and their workers have invested many hours and efforts to tackle a health crisis that adds to the long chain of diseases that threaten humanity. We have seen entire cities in the United States take to the streets to applaud the thousands of healthcare workers who have been on the front lines, exposed to a novel virus about which little information was available. Among so many thousands of workers, there were also Hispanic professionals. But these health professionals have been fighting for the well-being of their communities for years. What does it mean to dedicate yourself to the field of health in Latin America? What does it mean in America? What are the similarities and differences between American and Latin American healthcare practice? Why did these professionals decide to join the ranks of healthcare?

Join our Spanish in the Community class in this video to explore the experience of eight Hispanic healthcare workers, their challenges, but also their hopes.
