Spend 7 weeks of your summer in Barcelona!
In addition to a either a five credit Spanish intensive beginning language course, or a three credit Spanish Intermediate course, you will select one of 3 elective courses at the Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona for a total of 6 – 8 credits. This program is offered in partnership with International Studies Abroad (ISA).This program is ideal if you’d like to review Spanish, if you need additional Spanish credits before taking Intermediate Spanish at UF, or if you need to fulfill the CLAS language requirement.
UF in Barcelona is the only UF-sponsored study abroad program in Spain that offers a Spanish language course with no prerequisites. This program is offered in partnership with International Studies Abroad (ISA).
Barcelona is the capital of Cataluña and the second largest city in Spain. Barcelona is a bilingual city, as inhabitants of the region speak both Castilian Spanish and Catalán. Barcelona offers eccentric creativity, cultural diversity, stunning architecture, and endless amounts of energy. its influence in commerce, education, media, fashion, science, and the arts all contribute to its status as one of the world’s major global cities.
The program is open to UF students of any major who are good standing with a minimum GPA of 2.5 or higher.
Program of Study
Courses are taught by UF and Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona faculty.
- Required language course:
-SPN1134*: Accelerated Spanish Review (5 UF GPA credits)
*only for those who do NOT have college credit for SPN1130 and SPN1131!
- Choose ONE elective course (taught in English):
-EUH4314: Spanish Civilization and Culture
-ARH4930: Spanish Art & Cultural Heritage
-URP 4905: Barcelona: City Planning and Architecture
Students will have the option of staying with a host family or in a residencia (dorm-type housing). The host families are selected by ISA (International Studies Abroad). Usually students live with another student, but may request to live alone for an extra charge. The home-stay includes three meals a day, seven days a week and laundry once a week. The residencia option requires an additional $500 deposit and does not include meals or laundry.
This program offers a day excursions to Sitges included in the program cost, plus additional opportunities to participate in several cultural excursions in and around Barcelona.
Cost: $7,052 per student
A $350 nonrefundable deposit toward the total cost of the program is due at the time of application. The remaining fees are due no later than 45 days prior to departure.
For students staying in a residencia, there is an additional $500 deposit fee. It is 100% refundable if there are no damages at the end of the program. Any damages to common areas are divided among all students in the residencia unless responsibility is claimed by one.
If you receive financial aid, you can defer payment until it disburses. Deferment decision will be based on the amount of aid to be received.
Tuition for 6-8 credits, lodging and daily meals with a host family or lodging in a student residencia, entrance fees/guided tours, tutorial assistance with ISA, internet access in the ISA office, ground transportation, international health insurance and emergency medical assistance.
What’s Not Included:
Round-trip airfare, additional personal travel, and personal expenses.
Most financial aid that you would receive on campus during the summer can be applied toward the cost of this study abroad program; however, all financial aid eligibility is determined by Student Financial Affairs. You must speak with your financial aid advisor to determine what aid can be applied to the cost of this study abroad program, including scholarships.

Partial scholarships for UF students are available on a competitive basis through the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the Honors Program, the Department of Spanish & Portuguese Studies, as well as the International Center.
